We all wish to make the dream of owning a house come true. However, to build one's dream home it takes more than just a basic idea. For the one investing his all in building a dream house, a house is a reflection of his personality and is something that he has worked on himself. Constructing a dream home is a journey that involves self discovery, who you are and what you prefer for a place of living. It offers the chance to define your relationship with the world, your family, and yourself. Just like setting out on a journey the trip needs to be planned, the budget needs to be fixed and having a guide can lead to an enjoyable, enriching, and better experience, the same holds true for a home building journey. Otherwise it’s very easy to get carried away while building the home of dreams. Points such as the consolidation of the ground on a site can make it more preferable to be used as a particular foundation. In case of a well-compacted site the expense on the foundation is less and more money could be spent in buying good quality construction materials such as strongest TMT bars that makes the foundation of the structure strong and long lasting.
Other tips to keep in mind while designing your dream home -
Budget
While budget should be in any goal, it’s such an essential piece in building a house that it has to be included as a separate task.
Builder reference check
It is important to conduct preliminary research even before you meet your builder. Ask the builder for the proof of their workmanship. Knowing the team and going through their portfolio assures you that you are giving the task of building your dream house in the right hands.
Construction material quality
When it comes to building a house the old saying “you get out what you put in†holds true. Using high-quality building materials makes a strong and durable building structure that can withstand the test of time. Houses that use the best construction materials will last for more than a decade. While it might initially appear that using cheap construction materials saves money however, later the poor-quality structure will often require expensive repairs and can result in safety hazards for the people who live in such buildings.
Reinforced cement concrete (R.C.C) is the combination of concrete with the reinforcement to increase its compressive and tensile strength to a great extent. This is largely used as a construction material from constructing foundations to the rooftops of buildings.
The concrete is a versatile material for modern day construction which is prepared by mixing well-proportioned quantities of cement (even lime in some cases), sand, crushed rock or gravel, and water. However, concrete alone cannot withstand the tensile forces which act upon beams and slabs. In the absence of reinforcements there is a very high risk of its failure when plain concrete is used. Steel has a very high tensile strength alongside good compressive strength. Hence, when concrete and steel are combined together R.C.C is obtained that is capable of withstanding forces likely to act upon a structure, i.e., compressive loads, tensile stresses, and shear forces.
Types of Reinforcements -
(i) Mild steel bars:
Mild steel bars come in various diameters and possess a characteristic strength in tension which is specified in relevant codes.
These steel bars used as reinforcement can be bent easily without cracking at the bends.
(ii) Hot-rolled bars and Cold-worked bars:
They are specially prepared reinforcements.
Hot rolled bars have a characteristic strength in tension which is almost double than that of mild steel bars. They come commonly in thick sections and can be bent by heating (up to 100°C) without developing any defects. Ordinary mild steel bars do not have this characteristic.
Similarly, the cold worked steel bars come in twisted or stretched forms having elongated ribs along their length. They also have a much higher characteristic strength in comparison to mild steel bars.
TMT bars
Thermo-mechanically Treated Reinforcement Bars are produced by sudden quenching of red hot steel bars by a spray of water.
The moment steel bar comes in contact with cold water its outer surface hardens and becomes martensite whereas the inner core still remains soft. The Thermex Technology (water spray system) makes TMT Bars highly tensile.
Corrosion resistant TMT-CRS are also available in the market. Corrosion resistant elements like Copper, Phosphorus and Chromium build up the corrosion resistant property in TMT-CRS.
While the market is replete with so many TMT brands and manufacturers like TRIAM A+ 550D new-age rebars, it is important to know what are the features to check before buying TMT bar for your home.
Let’s explore the qualities of an ideal TMT bar -
Manufacturing Technique: Thermo-mechanical Treatment, better known as the TMT route is considered as the most advanced manufacturing process which determines the quality of a TMT bar. This process is executed in three consequent stages - Quenching, Self-tempering and Atmospheric cooling. This imparts a unique combination of strength and ductility in the steel TMT bars.
Ductile Strength: Ductile strength of a TMT bar ensures superior structure. The strength and ductility measure is specified in IS:1786 standard. Well surpassed limitation of the specified standard represents better quality of the TMT bar.
Rib Structure: Rib patterns of the TMT bars are responsible for the steel-concrete bonding of a concrete structure. Angular ribs equally spread around the surface are vital to uphold the concrete bond and the tensile load of the structure at large.
Weldability: Low carbon content in TMT bars makes it easy for welding work. To avoid pre or post welding treatment, choose TMT rebars with excellent weldability.
Bendability: Advanced quenching process toughens the surface layer while the core remains soft, making the TMT bar easily bendable. The Bar Bending Schedule (BBS) certification helps to determine the cutting and bending strength.
Dimension Tolerance: BIS code with specified nominal values determine the grades of dimension tolerance. Compared to ordinary rebars, In good quality TMT bars closer values of sectional weight ensure higher meterage per unit weight.
Chemical Composition: Certified composition of Sulphur, Carbon and Phosphorus and exclusion of unwanted cast iron, non-metallic and non-ferrous materials etc. determine a good quality TMT bar.
Earthquake Resistance: An earthquake resistant structure is dependent on its reinforcement strength. TMT bars along with a good concrete bond, increases the tensile strength of a structure. Grades of TMT rebars differ at different seismic zones.
Fire Resistance: To make the concrete structure safer in fire hazards, good quality TMT bars have higher thermal stability. They retain more than 80% of their ambient temperature yield strength at 300°.
Cost Effectiveness: Uniform sectional weight per unit and batch to batch consistency reduces steel wastage and makes it cost effective for customers to buy TMT bars in small quantities as well.
While many TMT brands promise the above characteristics it is important to verify the product before buying. To know more about TMT rebars for building your dream house, visit http://triamtmt.com/.
